A Visit to The Studio
A podcast episode to add to your listening playlist

We were recently interviewed by Bruce Howlett over at For the Love of Literacy. We were joined by the wonderful Mary Beth Steven, who wrote the foreword for our book, The Sentence Studio Volume 1.
In the interview, we explain why shifting the focus from grammatical form (as is common in traditional grammar instruction) to grammatical function is a sound pedagogical decision.
The Sentence Studio was written as a result of real lessons with real students who needed literacy support that was tangible, efficient, and resulted in real outcomes. Every step of our instructional routine has been included because it serves a purpose. We can't waste time on empty time-filler activities; everything we do with our students needs to have an impact on both their reading comprehension and written expression.
The key to unlocking meaning lies in seeing the structure of the sentence and in understanding how the parts become the whole.

While this interview gives you a great overview of the program and the parts of The Sentence Studio Instructional Routine, we want to invite you to sign up for our inaugural educator training which is coming up in July 2026. This training runs over two sessions. The first session walks you through the steps for successful implementation, digs into the student activities, and shows you how to bring it all together. The second session (running in September 2026) brings everyone back together to ask questions, reflect on what has unfolded with our students, and troubleshoot any road-bumps you may be experiencing in your practice.
You can only attend this training if you have purchased the book, and there is still time to order and receive your copy in time for the training.
Sign up for training here.
